EstateCompass (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information we collect
Visitors (no account required): We collect standard server logs including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and referral source. This information is used only for site performance and security monitoring and is not linked to any individual.
Providers (listed businesses): When you claim or create a listing, we collect your name, email address, business name, phone number, website, and business description. This information is used to create and manage your directory listing.
Enquiries: When a visitor submits an enquiry via the directory, we collect their name, email address, and message. This is passed directly to the relevant provider.
Reviews: When someone submits a review, we collect their name and email address for moderation purposes. Reviews are published without personal contact details.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate and display the provider directory
- Deliver enquiries from families to the relevant provider
- Manage provider accounts and subscriptions
- Respond to questions and support requests
- Maintain the security and performance of the site
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or share personal information with third parties except as described below.
3. Payment processing
Subscription payments are processed by Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment processor. EstateCompass does not store or have access to your card number or payment details. Stripe’s privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.
4. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate this site:
- Vercel — hosting and content delivery
- Neon — database hosting
- Resend — transactional email
- Stripe — payment processing
- Anthropic — AI assistant (Ask feature)
Questions submitted to the AI assistant are processed by Anthropic’s API and are subject to Anthropic’s usage policies. Do not include sensitive personal information in AI questions.
5. Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies to operate the site. These include session cookies for provider login. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.
6. Data retention
Provider account data is retained for as long as the account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing us. Enquiry and review records are retained for up to 3 years for dispute resolution purposes.
7. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
- Request access to personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information
- Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you believe we have breached the Act
